The unconference’s guiding principles
abolition
We disrupt and dismantle harmful systems and structures rooted in capitalism, which is supported by colonialism and white supremacy. Abolitionism requires imagining alternatives to these systems
accessibilty
We design this shared work so that every member of our community can participate. This includes how we communicate, the physical set up of the space, how the sessions are pitched and facilitated. Liberation is for everyone, not just those with the “right” credentials, language, or body. Everyone belongs here.
accountability
We have the courage to look inward and reflect as individuals and communities to understand how we show up for ourselves, for each other, and how we stay in community. It requires us to look at what external systems have done to us and how we have internalized them. We must name the impact of those systems on ourselves and our communities and respond by working to build trusting relationships.
FAQs
-
An unconference is a gathering where the agenda is co-created and facilitated by the participants. Rather than following a traditional conference schedule with predetermined speakers, participants shape the experience by sharing their knowledge, asking questions, leading discussions, and learning from one another. The result is a collaborative, community-driven space where everyone's experiences and perspectives help guide the conversation.

If you are in community with youth in any capacity (teachers, social workers, policy makers and advocates, health practitioners, mental health specialists, and caregivers of all stripes), this unconference is for you.
-
The Head-Heart-Feet framework invites us to engage our minds, our hearts, and our actions as we imagine and build more liberatory futures together.

This is a space to build coalitions, meaningful networks, and hopefully a social movement toward a healthier and human-focused educational landscape here in Baltimore.
We ultimately hope that what we build will inspire communities beyond Baltimore to engage in this future-building.
